│ ▒▒▒▒▒ DVNet TICK OPERATION INFORMATION ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ │
└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
***** QUICK START *****
For Sysops already familiar with TICK.
The Area tag name is DVNET
If you want password protection arrange this with
your feed.
Look over the section on DVLIST area tag
***** SLOW START *****
See DVNet.cfg for examples
The TICK docs do a good job of explaining in
detail the operation of the program. These
comments are very brief overviews of operations.
Tick is an echo program for files rather than
messages. There are 2 parts to the program. Tick
takes care of processing and forwarding incoming
files, moving them from your netfile area into
your DVNet area. This program is the one you will
use most of the time.
If you have a program you wish to send into DVNet,
you will use the second program called Hatch. This
program will launch the file and its description
to your hub.
Tick uses .cfg files modeled after confmail/qmail
areas.bbs. Like message echoes, the file echoes
use AREA TAG NAMES. The tic.cfg should use the
area tag DVNet. The path can be anything you want;
it is only the area tag that is important. Use the
default PASSWORD for the password. If you desire
to use this function, netmail your choice of
password to your hub.
Your hub may also request you obtain a program
called RAID. RAID operates just like AREAfix does
for message echoes only it functions on file
echoes.

└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
************************************************
(The following is no longer mandatory but if you
want to send 17/38 your DVNet listing, please
Hatch directly to 17/38 using DVLIST as the area
tag).
************************************************
See DVlist.cfg for example
Create a DVlist.cfg using the area tag DVLIST.
DVlist.cfg is used to send 17/38 your DVNet area
listing. This .cfg should NOT contain the stopdup
statement. If you forget and leave this in place,
it will send your listing only 1 time and
thereafter tick will see a file called dvlist.dup
and find that the listing has already been sent
and will refuse to do it again.
****************************************************
It is VERY IMPORTANT to use the DVLIST tag so your
listing will NOT be sent to the other nodes.
****************************************************
One other thing to notice. When you HATCH a file
it uses the path statement to locate the Files.bbs
and it appends the description to the end of it.
So every month when you send your xxx-xxx.DV list
it will end up appended to your listing. The LOCAL
option will make tick append the listing to a
dummy file called dvlist.bbs.( See the TIC docs
for details).
Confused?
Don't worry it comes together like mud after a few
tries.
